Lahure at Cinemandu
For the 24th edition of Cinemandu, the Embassy of India in Kathmandu and the BP Koirala India-Nepal Foundation, on Monday, screened Lahure, a feature film produced in 1987.
After the screening, a short interactive session was conducted inside the Nepal Bharat Library premises, the venue that has been hosting Cinemandu. “With Lahure, we have celebrated our second year of completion of Cinemandu,” said Abhay Kumar, secretary of the BP Koirala India-Nepal Foundation. “In the next edition we will announce the best films among the ones we have screened.”
Veteran producer and actor Shrawan Kumar Ghimire, who played a leading role in the movie, talked to the audience too. Ghimire spoke about the Nepali film industry at large and about Lahure in particular. “We had a very talented team, made up of people like Tulsi Ghimire, Tripti Nadekar, Danny Denzongpa, musician Ranjt Gajmer and cinematographer Binod Pradhan,” he said. “This film was successful in connecting with many Nepalis back then and continues to be appreciated today.”
Cinemandu, which started two years ago with the screening of Nischal Basnet’s Loot, has screened 24 critically acclaimed Nepali feature films, including a documentary.
