How did you first come to love books?
When I was in sixth grade, my best friend was crazy about the Harry Potter series (JK Rowling) and used to talk about it a lot. I felt that I should give it a read just so that I could engage in the conversation. I read one part, and then another, and before I realised, I was hooked to books. What was not even a priority progressed to top the list. I then went on to read the Percy Jackson series (Rick Riordan) and later stumbled upon The Old Man and the Sea (Ernest Hemingway), which I had to read twice to actually understand. From then on, I started to grasp and appreciate writing.
Do you prefer fiction or non-fiction? Why?
I prefer popular books, be it fiction or non-fiction. But, honestly speaking, if I had to choose one, it would certainly be fiction. It’s probably because it was fiction that instilled in me the love for reading. Also because the genre reflects a person’s imagination and a gifted writer can present ideas in ways that they become as vivid as reality itself.
How do you select books to read?
I usually go through reviews. Most of my friends are bookworms and we recommend and lend each other the books that we like. As for the books by my favourite authors, I just read them because it’s written by them.
Reading electronically has become very popular nowadays. Have you also adopted this trend or do you still prefer to read from a physical copy?
I am among those who like an actual hardcopy. I like to take my time when reading a book. But I have to admit that reading a soft copy is convenient too. When I can’t find a physical copy of the book that I want to read, I compensate for it with a digital one.
What are you reading right now and how is it going?
I’m currently reading Seto Bagh by Diamond Shumsher Rana. I heard that a feature film based on the novel is coming out soon and I hope to finish the book by then. Miss Lonelyhearts by Nathanael West is another book that I am reading at present.
Who is your favorite author?
I don’t think I’ll be able to name just one writer, as I am a fan of works by a handful of authors. But if I had to mention, it would be John Green, Nicolas Sparks, JK Rowling and Chetan Bhagat. I’m always willing to read any and every book by these writers.
