The Tarai life
Newa Chen Art Gallery, Patan, is hosting an exhibition titled Solitude Fragmented by artist Rajan Pant.Inspired by the simple yet harsh lives of the people of the Tarai, the collection focuses more on their lifestyles rather than their emotions. The acrylic paintings without fail catch the viewers attention.
“The paintings depict an episode of time that is abundant and significant. It is an amalgam of common and ordinary dreams which float between me and the people of the town,” says the artist.
Pant interweaves figures of children, street vendors, pedestrians and cattle into his painting, and by creating dark voids for faces of the human figures, the paintings leave the viewers to ponder upon the emotions and the identities of those who are represented.
According to the artist, the images that he has created on the canvases are his moments in the Tarai where he felt a certain indescribable joy and immediately fell in love with the area. He says that it was a place where he felt warm even in the cold of December.
The exhibition is on till January 25
