‘Yerma’ at Theatre Village
One World Theatre (OWT) is all set to roll out “Yerma”, a Spanish folk tragedy, at Theatre Village, Lazimpat, from November 29.
“Yerma,” which means barren in Spanish, is written by poet/playwright Federico Garcia Lorca and has been translated into Nepali by poet Prakash Subedi. The play is based on a woman’s yearning for a child and her search for self-identity.
The play will be directed by Bimal Subedi, a recent graduate of the National School of Drama, New Delhi. Subedi will also be in charge of sets and lighting, while OWT’s artistic director, Deborah Merola, will be the producer of the play. Sajan Thapa Magar will design the giant male and female masks required for the play. Similarly, Sumnima Sampang will do the Flamenco dance and Jason Kuwar will compose the music.
The play will feature celebrated Nepali stage and screen celebrities like Namrata Shrestha, Rajkumar Pudasaini, Kamal Mani Nepal and Shrijana Adhikari.
