A look at Valentine’s Day 2014
Valentine’s Day 2014 had come along, and there was a noticeable chill in the air (never mind the ‘love’ that permeates the earth’s atmosphere every year on this particular day).
The Army Officer’s Club in Sundhara hosted ‘Shadaj Valentine’s Day Special 2014’, an all-in-one event of sorts that featured everything from a love-themed fancy dress competition, a poolside dance party, an exciting array of love games and a dazzling salsa dance competition. The lively, sensual Latin American dance form has gained much popularity in Kathmandu in recent years and participants at the Shadaj Valentine’s Day event put their best foot forward, impressing judges and audiences with their seductive moves. The love-themed party saw couples, particularly women, showcasing how truly beautiful red can look, and musicians Astha B, Anil Singh, Chirag Singh Khadka, Shreya Sotang, and the Ethos Band and Sanjaya Chaudhary added to the magic of the all-day celebratory event
A few hundred metres ahead, at the Civil Mall, Sundhara, another Valentine’s Day event had attracted numerous couples as well. The ‘Close Up Love Fest’ began at the Civil Mall Food Court at 6 pm and featured a performance by Level & Treble. The Love Fest was in fact a two-day affair and continued till February 15. While Friday’s celebrations also featured events at Sherpa Mall (performance by Prayaas) and Mandala Street (performance by Awartan), Saturday’s event took place at the Civil Mall, beginning at 3 pm. There was a love lounge for couples to enjoy as well as a tarot card reading stall. There were also games and movie moments planned specifically to cater to enthusiastic love birds. Moreover, The Electrix, Sabin Rai and Band, Subani Moktan and The Shine Band, Sugam Pokharel, Nepsydaz, Supersonics and Dexterous performed live at the venue.
Love birds could also be seen commemorating Valentine’s Day in parks and restaurants all over the Capital as well as in other areas of the country. Celebrations of love took over Kathmandu on February 14. In fact, there were many who seemed hung over on love the next day as well.
