‘Ainaa Jhyal ko Putali’ is Nepal’s Oscar submission
The film was released on September 9 to widespread critical acclaim.‘Ainaa Jhyal Ko Putali’, a film directed and written by Sujit Bidari, is Nepal’s submission for the 95th edition of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, famously known as the Oscars.
The film is one of several art films that have been released in Nepal in the last few months. When Nepal’s International Feature Film Selection Committee asked filmmakers to submit their films for the prestigious competition, it only received three submissions—Dinesh Raut’s ‘Prakash’, Subarna Thapa’s ‘Radha’, and Bidari’s ‘Ainaa Jhyal ko Putali’, according to a statement issued by the committee.
The eight-member committee, which is chaired by Bimal Poudel, decided to recommend the critically-acclaimed film “taking into consideration the film’s technical aspects, story presentation, emotional analysis of the characters, and the artistry of the presentation,” Chiranjibi Guragain, the committee’s secretary, said in a statement.
“The movie, if selected, will be competing for the ‘Best International Feature Film’, and the official announcement of the top five films competing for this category will be out in January next year,” Guragain added.
The upcoming Oscars Awards will be held on March 12, 2023, at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
