The Ministry of Education and representatives of the Nepal Teachers’ Federation have agreed to resolve the ongoing teachers’ agitation through dialogue and negotiation.

During a meeting held at the ministry on Saturday morning, Education Minister Raghuji Pant, the ministry’s Secretary Deepak Kafle, Federation chair Laxmikishor Subedi, vice-chair and agitation coordinator Nanumaya Parajuli, and General Secretary Tul Bahadur Thapa discussed the teachers’ demands.

After the meeting, Federation chair Subedi said they had clearly communicated their position to the government. “We presented our stance firmly to the ministry. The primary goal of our movement is to ensure the promulgation of a progressive School Education Act, and we remain steadfast in that demand,” he said.

General Secretary Thapa added that they briefed the newly appointed education minister about their demands and agreed to continue addressing the issues through further talks and discussions.

The teachers have been pressing the government to pass a new education law incorporating previous agreements made with different governments. They have warned that without the enactment of the new Act, the protest will not end.

The ministry has expressed commitment to resolving the issues through constructive dialogue, signaling a potential breakthrough in the ongoing impasse between the government and the teaching community.

The teachers have been agitating, calling nationwide strike in the schools since April 7.
