Actor Nana Patekar dies at 75 after cardiac arrest
The veteran actor was found unconscious at his residence in Goa and was declared dead at 5:20 am, according to hospital sources.Post Report
Veteran actor and filmmaker Nana Patekar died on Thursday after suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa. He was 75.
According to hospital sources cited by NDTV, doctors tried to revive Patekar for nearly 45 minutes after he was brought to hospital, but he did not respond. He was declared dead at 5:20 am.
Patekar’s son, Malhar Patekar, was in Pune at the time and has left for Goa, according to the sources.
Born on January 1, 1951, in Maharashtra, Patekar established himself as an actor known for his intensity, distinctive dialogue delivery and portrayals of complex and unconventional characters. He was a recipient of three National Film Awards and was known for films including Natsamrat, Wajood, Parinda, Ab Tak Chhappan and Yeshwant.
Patekar made his Bollywood debut with the 1978 film Gaman. During the early 2000s, he received praise for his performances in Shakti: The Power (2002), Ab Tak Chhappan (2004), Apaharan (2005) and Taxi No 9211 (2006).
He also won widespread praise for playing the gangster Uday Shetty in the comedy Welcome (2007) and its sequel Welcome Back (2015).
Patekar later appeared in the comedy thriller Housefull 5.
He also played a supporting role in the 2010 political thriller Raajneeti, earning his fifth Filmfare Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor.
