Bolbam pilgrims in Sundarijal
Bolbam pilgrims gather in Sundarijal to fetch water and offer it to Pashupatinath and other shrines.Post Report
A month-long bolbam festival has concluded on Monday.
Thousands of devotees, all dressed alike in saffron robes, have gathered in Sundarijal on the outskirts of Kathmandu on the last Monday of Shrawan month to fetch water and take a holy bath.
Devotees walk barefoot to Sundarijal from various parts of Kathmandu Valley to fetch water and offer it to Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu and Doleshwar Mahadev Temple in Bhaktapur among other shrines.
There is a belief that offering sacred water to Shiva every Monday of Shrawan month will wash away their sins and will also get their wishes fulfilled.
The festival is observed by Hindu devotees, mainly from the Madheshi community, across the country.
