Police have arrested #JusticeForNirmala campaign activists while they were staging demonstration outside the President’s office in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu on Thursday.
The activists staged sit-in demanding justice for 13-year-old Nirmala Pant of Kanchanpur who was raped and murdered on July 26.
According to the police, 12 persons were arrested during the protest and they have been detained at Metropolitan Police Circle office in Maharajgunj.
The protesters, sporting headscarves with ‘Ma Nirmala’ (I’m Nirmala) written on it, chanted slogans demanding justice to the victim of the crime.
Police informed that the arrested demonstrators were of the same group who have been organising protests at Maitighar Mandala along with posters that read ‘Sarkar Bhettiyo, Nyaya Bhettiyena’ (Found the government but could not find justice).
Four months after the heinous crime that sparked widespread demonstration, the activists have been continuing protests against the government's failure to arrest the perpetrators.
