The temple reconstruction had run into controversy following complaints that concrete and metal were being used and that archaeological norms were not being followed while rebuilding the 17th century structure.
The UN’s cultural agency also had drawn attention of the concerned authorities to “inappropriate reconstruction” of the temple.
DoA Director General Bhesh Narayan Dahal told the Post that the DoA has already received Rs 10 million from the Nepal Reconstruction Authority for the reconstruction of the temple.
“The amount released to us though is not sufficient for completing the reconstruction, it will be enough to start the work,” said Dahal. “We will seek more fund from the NRA later.”
The temple reconstruction has been put on hold for the last five months.
