Rai and Pascua win 170km Everest Trail Race
Rai completed the distance in 20 hours, 51 minutes and 36 seconds while Pascua took 26 hours, 20 minutes and 56 seconds to reach the finishing line.Kumbharaj Rai
Nepali athlete, Suman Kulung Rai won in the men’s category of the 170 kilometre-long Everest Trail Race. Spanish national, Anna Comet Pascua was adjudged the winner in the women’s category. The ninth edition of the race which began from Pattale, Solukhumbu six days ago, concluded at Lukla on Saturday.
Rai completed the distance in 20 hours, 51 minutes and 36 seconds while Pascua took 26 hours, 20 minutes and 56 seconds to reach the finishing line.
Another Spaniard, Gerard Morales Ramirez finished second in the men’s category completing the distance in 23 hours, 28 minutes and 29 seconds. Hans Kristian Semdsrod of Norway finished third, clocking 23 hours, 54 minutes and 13 seconds.
Manuela Vilaseca of Brazil finished second in the women’s category, clocking 29 hours, 29 minutes and five seconds while Spaniard Nuria Dominguez Azpeleta was the second runner-up in the race after completing the distance in 30 hours, three minutes and 46 seconds.
Winner of the men’s category, Rai, is a local of Gudel, Solukhumbu and has won the Everest Marathon on two separate occasions in the past. Speaking to reporters after his victory, Rai said his dream of winning the Trail Race has finally been realised.
Rai had participated in the previous edition of the Trail Race, but had failed to win.
Winners of the Trail Race will be awarded at a ceremony in Kathmandu on Monday.
