Dhankuta

A fire that started in the Deurali Community Forest in ward 2 of Chaubise Rural Municipality spread to a nearby settlement, destroying two houses on Wednesday.

According to police, the homes of Ram Bahadur Pakhrin and Hirendra Niraula in ward 4, were gutted.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Om Prakash Khanal said Pakhrin’s house suffered losses worth Rs600,000, including food grains, clothes and furniture. Niraula’s two-storey mud house and cowshed sustained damages of Rs100,000.

The fire was brought under control on Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, a separate wildfire in Tarebhir, Sangurigadhi Rural Municipality, was contained with the help of fire engines from the Area Police Office in Dandabazar and Dharan Sub-metropolitan City.
