An elderly man was killed in an elephant attack in Chulachuli Rural Municipality, Ilam, near the Jhapa border on Monday night.
According to the police, 73-year-old Raj Kumar Rai of ward 1 of the rural municipality was attacked by a wild elephant while trying to chase it away from his paddy field. Rai sustained serious injuries in the attack.
He was immediately taken to Lifeline Hospital in Damak for treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries at around 10:45pm, the police said, citing family sources.
