CPN (Maoist Centre) Deputy Secretary General Barshaman Pun has started receiving his follow-up treatment at Shenzhen-based Third People’s Hospital in China.

His health condition had worsened during the election rush in November. He left for treatment in China on Friday.

Pun, who is also former finance and energy minister, has been suffering from hereditary hyper-bilirubinemia, a kind of jaundice. The disease is called Crigler-Najjar Syndrome Type 2.

Pun is receiving care in quarantine as China is under strict lockdown due to the fourth wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Pun’s wife, former speaker Onsari Gharti Magar, said that there has been a general improvement in health. Gharti informed that the bilirubin level in Pun’s blood, which was 27 µmol/L when they left Nepal, has decreased to 24 µmol/L.
