Police officers arrived at the Kathmandu office of Naya Patrika Daily in Putalisadak on Friday looking for journalist Navaraj Mainali, journalists working there said.
A journalist at the newspaper said the officers had come to find Mainali and told staff they wanted to take him to the Cyber Bureau for questioning.
Khagendra Pant, news editor at Naya Patrika, said four or five plainclothes officers had arrived, identifying themselves as members of the Metropolitan Crime Division.
“They said they had come to take our reporter to the Cyber Bureau,” Pant said.
Police also visited the Anamnagar office of online news outlet Diyo Post, looking for its editor-in-chief, Sudeep Bishwakarma, and news coordinator, Madan Dhungana, according to a journalist working there.
The officers, who were in plain clothes, identified themselves as members of the Valley Crime Investigation Office and left after visiting the newsroom, the journalist said.
Diyo Post had earlier published a report saying its staff had received threats following the outlet’s coverage of the chief justice.
Earlier on Friday, police took journalist Bishwamani Subedi from the newsroom of Nepal Press. He has since been taken to the Cyber Bureau.
Superintendent of Police Deepak Awasthi of the Cyber Bureau told the Kantipur daily that Subedi and several others had been brought in for questioning.
“We needed to question him and a few others, so they were brought to the Cyber Bureau,” Awasthi said.
