A Nepali national was among eight people injured in an attack on King Fahd International Airport in Dammam, eastern Saudi Arabia, on Wednesday evening, the kingdom’s General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) said.
The injured, whose conditions ranged from minor to critical, were taken to hospitals for treatment. The attack also caused damage to airport property, the extent of which authorities were assessing.
GACA confirmed an additional death on Thursday, bringing the reported death toll from the airport attack to two. The deceased were a Saudi national and an Indian national.
The eight injured included one Saudi national, two each from India, Yemen and Bangladesh, and one Nepali national.
GACA said the airport had resumed operations and flights were returning to normal.
The attack came hours after a separate incident at Saudi Aramco’s Shaybah oil field in the kingdom’s Eastern Province killed a Nepali and a Filipino worker and injured two others, a Pakistani and an Indian national.
Saudi air defences intercepted a drone heading towards a processing facility at the oil field on Wednesday morning, the Energy Ministry said. Debris from the interception set fire to a vehicle belonging to a contractor working at the site, outside the facility’s perimeter. The incident did not affect operations at the oil field.
The ministry said the relevant authorities had taken the necessary measures following the incident. It also expressed condolences to the families of those killed and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
The identity and home district of the Nepali worker killed at Shaybah have not been made public.
Saudi Arabia is a major destination for Nepali migrant workers, thousands of whom are employed across the kingdom.
The incidents come amid renewed fighting between Saudi Arabia and Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi rebels, on a separate front of the wider regional war that began with US and Israeli strikes on Iran in February 2026.
