RSP’s Shishir Khanal wins second term in Kathmandu-6
Former education minister secures decisive victory, far ahead of Congress and UML rivals.Post Report
Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) candidate Shishir Khanal has been elected from Kathmandu Constituency No. 6, securing his second term in parliament.
Khanal received 27,719 votes.
His nearest rival, Nepali Congress candidate Krishna Baniya Chhetri, garnered 6,647 votes, while CPN-UML candidate Aman Kumar Maskey trailed with 4,373 votes. Khanal has previously served briefly as the country’s education minister.
A total of 43,868 votes were cast in the constituency. The Election Commission has yet to formally declare the result.
Khanal had also won Kathmandu-6 in the 2022 elections, defeating former ruling coalition candidate Bhimsen Das Pradhan and CPN-UML’s Sarvendra Khanal by a margin of 5,293 votes, receiving 14,204 votes to Sarvendra Khanal’s 8,911 and Pradhan’s 8,805.
