The local administration has imposed a curfew in parts of Gaur Municipality in Rautahat after clashes between two groups heightened tensions on Saturday morning.
The curfew order was issued after a confrontation broke out in Ward 6, Sabgadh of Gaur, creating a tense situation.
Chief District Officer Dinesh Sagar Bhusal said that the restriction was enforced to prevent the situation from deteriorating further. “We have imposed the curfew to ensure the situation does not escalate. Security personnel have been deployed to bring the situation under control,” he said.
He informed that the curfew area covers the Gaur Customs Office, extending east to Mudbalwa Gate, west to the Lalkaiya embankment, and north to the Bam Canal area.
Tensions flared after a vehicle was set on fire during the clashes. Although a six-point agreement had been reached on Friday evening between the two sides following earlier confrontations, stone-pelting resumed at around 9 am on Saturday, further aggravating the situation.
Dozens of personnel from Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force have been mobilised to restore order. Security has been tightened in the affected areas, and authorities have urged the public to exercise restraint.
The dispute reportedly began when an argument broke out between members of two communities during a wedding procession in Sabgadh, leading to stone-throwing. Several people were injured in the incident, officials said.
