Dahal leaving for Delhi today
Visit limited to the diaspora programme, no official meetings scheduled, Dahal’s secretariat says.Post Report
Nepali Communist Party coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal is travelling to New Delhi on Sunday.
His secretariat said Dahal will attend a programme organised by the party-affiliated Nepali Samaj Bharat in New Delhi. He is scheduled to leave Kathmandu on Sunday afternoon and return on Monday.
Dahal is expected to address a joint gathering of Nepali diaspora organisations in India, mainly in the context of unification between the CPN (Maoist Centre) and the CPN (Unified Socialist) and other left groups in November last year.
“He will address the common concerns of Nepali communities in India, shed light on the importance of strengthening Nepal-India relations, challenges and opportunities for Nepali communities in India, the relevance of unity and collaboration [among parties], and other contemporary issues” a press release issued by RB Khadka, general secretary of Nepali Samaj Bharat, states.
The secretariat of former prime minister Dahal said there is no schedule for formal meetings with Indian officials during the visit.
Notably, his trip to the southern neighbour has taken place at a time when electoral activities intensify in Nepal. His visit comes a week after the return of former prime minister Baburam Bhattarai’s Delhi visit, who spent a few days in the capital city of India.
