As many as 25 people were injured in separate bus accidents in Gorkha and Makawanpur districts on Sunday.
Twenty-one people were injured when a bus met with an accident at Bahrakilo in ward 11 of Gorkha Municipality along the Gorkha–Abukhaireni–Gorkha road section.
Police said the bus had been parked at Bahrakilo bazar when it fell about 10 metres down the road. Suraj Aryal, chief of the District Police Office Gorkha, said preliminary findings show the brakes did not work and the driver had stepped out without using a wheel stopper.
The number of passengers on board has yet to be confirmed. The injured have been taken to Gorkha Hospital. Police said further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, four people were injured when a bus overturned at Bagdhara in ward 1 of Makwanpurgadhi Rural Municipality along the Kanti Highway.
Police said the bus was travelling to Kathmandu from Faparbari of Bastipur when its brakes failed, causing it to veer into a roadside drain and overturn.
The injured include one woman and three men whose identities are yet to be established. They sustained minor injuries and are being treated at Makawanpur Cooperative Hospital.
Police said the bus remains at the crash site. The driver, Gokul Timilsina, 31, of Ambas in ward 10 of Bakaiya Rural Municipality, has been taken into custody. The crash site lies about 11 kilometres south-west of the Tistung Area Police Office.
