Nepal Media Society condemns attack on media houses
Demands action against perpetrators.
Post Report
Nepal Media Society, an organisation of owners of Nepal’s major media houses, has condemned the attack on media institutions during a protest by pro-monarchy groups and urged the government to take immediate legal action against those responsible.
Issuing a statement on Saturday, the society said it was deeply concerned over the assault on press freedom. It denounced the violent attacks on the offices of Annapurna Post and Kantipur Television in Kathmandu’s Tinkune area on Friday, calling it a direct assault on the law and freedom of expression.
The statement criticised the violent acts targeting media houses, private buildings, supermarkets, political party offices, and government institutions. It urged citizens, political parties, journalists, and businesses to remain vigilant against such violent incidents and to uphold democratic principles.
The society also demanded that the protest organisers take responsibility for the violence and face legal consequences. It called on the government to ensure journalists’ safety, press freedom, and the security of media institutions by taking immediate legal action against those involved.
