Two arrested with Rs1.2 million in suspected hundi transaction

Police in Nawalparasi West have arrested two youths with undisclosed Rs1.2 million, suspecting its connection to hundi transactions.
Acting on a tip-off about illegal cross-border money transfers, police apprehended the suspects at the bypass area of ward 5 in Ramgram Municipality. According to Police Inspector Narayan Thapa of the District Police Office, Nawalparasi West the duo was riding two Indian-registered motorcycles when officers discovered the cash.
The arrested individuals are 22-year-old Sukh Sagar Yadav of Bhaksipur in Palhinandan Rural Municipality and 39-year-old Shivendra Prasad Baniya of Piparpati in Pratappur Rural Municipality.
Yadav had Rs600,000 in his bag, while Baniya was found carrying Rs600,000 hidden in his jeans pockets and clothing.
Police said the suspects failed to disclose the source of the money, raising suspicions of hundi transactions. Authorities also seized two motorcycles with Indian registration numbers.
The District Court in Parasi has extended their custody by five days for further investigation.
