A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck Sindhupalchok at 2:51am on Friday with tremors felt in Kathmandu Valley and surrounding areas.
According to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre, the epicentre was at Bhairavkunda in Sindhupalchok district. No immediate reports of casualties or damage have been received.
The tremor caused residents in the Valley to wake up in the early hours, with some rushing outdoors. Authorities are assessing the impact in affected areas.
