Foreign Minister Deuba leaving for the Hague on Saturday
During her visit, she will present Nepal’s stance on climate obligations at the ICJ and participate in high-level meetings and conferences in Europe.Post Report
Minister for Foreign Affairs Arzu Rana Deuba is leaving for the Hague, Netherlands, leading Nepal’s delegation to the International Court of Justice (ICJ). She will present Nepal’s position on December 9 during public hearings on the ‘Obligations of states in respect of climate change,’ taking place from December 2 to 12.
The hearings were instituted by the ICJ following the adoption of United Nations General Assembly Resolution A/RES/77/276, which requested the court’s advisory opinion on states’ responsibilities concerning climate change.
According to the ministry, after the ICJ proceedings, Deuba will travel to Berlin, Germany, to attend the Equal Rights Coalition Conference, scheduled for December 17 and 18. The conference is hosted by German Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Annalena Baerbock on behalf of the Coalition’s co-chairs, Germany and Mexico.
During her European visit, Minister Deuba will also hold high-level discussions with officials from Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, and the European Union.
She is scheduled to return to Kathmandu on December 20.
