President Paudel appoints Ramesh Badal as attorney general
Badal was picked for the position by Prime Minister Oli.Post Report
President Ramchandra Paudel on Wednesday appointed senior advocate Ramesh Badal as the new attorney general.
According to the Office of the President, Paudel has appointed Badal to the position on the recommendation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in accordance with Article 157 (2) of the constitution.
Pokharel is a resident of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-7. The attorney general is the chief legal advisor to the government.
On Tuesday, Dinmani Pokharel, who was appointed as attorney general by the Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led government in December 2022, resigned after the new government was formed.
His resignation followed the tradition of the legal adviser to the government customarily resigning with the change of government.
Pokharel had courted controversy for issuing a letter to then Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane, stating that there were no cases against him in the cooperative fraud case.
