Former Tribhuvan University vice-chancellors on Friday expressed concerns about the delay in the appointment of key officials in the university.
Issuing a notice, the varsity’s former heads said that the vacancy of important executive posts, such as the rector and registrar, had caused direct and indirect impact on academic as well as administrative functioning of the university.
“Even though it has been long since the appointment of Tribhuvan University's vice-chancellor, there has been an unusual delay in the appointment of executive officials like rector and registrar,” reads a statement undersigned by former vice-chancellors Mahesh Kumar Upadhyay, Kedarbhakta Mathema, Kamal Krishna Joshi, and Nabin Prakash Jung Shah.
They also claimed that the line ministry and Tribhuvan University themselves have remained silent about the situation.
“We have long been saying that the vice-chancellor must have the authority to build their team,” they said.
“We request everyone concerned to give the vice-chancellor’s team full shape immediately by appointing qualified individuals and resume the varsity’s works.”
Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who is ex-officio chancellor of Tribhuvan University, appointed Professor Keshar Jung Baral as its vice-chancellor, in February.
