Three children killed in Bhojpur fire, two injured in Kalikot

Three children were killed in a fire in Bhojpur on Saturday.
According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Chandra Kunwar Khapung, the children, aged three, five and seven, died after the inferno engulfed local Kedar Karki’s cattle shed, where they were playing, in Piple of Hatuwagadhi-7.
The deceased are children of Kedar and his younger brother Ramesh.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
In a separate incident, fire gutted seven houses and 10 cattle sheds in Taksar Bazar of Bhojpur.
Meanwhile, in Kalikot, two persons sustained serious burn injuries as they attempted to contain forest fire at Nabadurga Community Forest in Khadachakra Municipality-5, Kalikot, on Friday.
According to the District Police Office, Nandaram Chaulagain, aged 50, and his 12-year-old daughter Hemanti were injured in the wildfire. The victims, who went to the forest to herd their goats, were injured as they attempted to control the fire and rescue their goats.
They were taken to Karnali Academy of Health Sciences as their treatment was not possible at the district hospital. Eighteen goats were charred to death in the incident.
Likewise, a massive fire caused huge damage in Morang district on Saturday.
The fire that spread in the noon gutted a settlement in Rangali Municipality-3 of the district.
Twenty-two houses of the Santhal settlement were burned to the ground after an inferno raged through the colony at noon, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajan Dahal.
According to eyewitness Rabindra Thakuri, the fire started after sparks from electrical wires, which ran over the settlement, fell on the straw-thatched roofs of the houses following a short circuit.
Police say the reason for the fire is yet to be ascertained.
The locals had previously brought the situation under control after a similar incident had occurred.
The damage of the incident is yet to be estimated, Dahal added.
Similarly, fire destroyed four houses and two sheds in a settlement near Sankrantibazaar of Aathrai Rural Municipality-1, Tehrathum, on the same day.
According to the Area Police Office in Sankrantibazaar, the wildfire in the nearby forest entered the settlement and destroyed the houses and sheds. Preliminary police investigation shows that properties worth around Rs11.6 million were destroyed in the inferno. In the meantime, a house belonging to Rudra Tamang in Myanglung Municipality-4 was also destroyed by fire the same day.
