Kathmandu

A seven-point agreement has been reached between the Kantipur management and the Kantipur chapter of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ).

The FNJ chapter said in a statement on Sunday evening the negotiation between the two sides, which stretched for two weeks, had ended in an agreement.

According to the deal, the Kantipur Publications Limited management will pay the due salaries as soon as possible and that if any journalists want to quit the job voluntarily, they will be given payments they are legally entitled to in a package for their saved leaves, medical treatment and gratuity, among other headings, based on the number of years they have worked for the company.

"A seven-point agreement has been signed between the two sides on the demands of the FNJ regarding the rights of working journalists," reads the statement issued by Anil Giri, chair of the FNJ Kantipur chapter.

"The two sides signed an agreement on Sunday on various points. If journalists working at Kantipur Publications want to quit the job voluntarily, they will be provided with the amount they get as per the law in a package for their unused leaves, medical treatment and gratuity, among others, as per the law. In the case of journalists working in the districts, they will be able to work as stringers even after resigning if they so wish. The due salaries will be paid as soon as possible."

The chapter had submitted a 12-point demand to the management, in writing on September 29.
