Post Report
The government and the representatives of the Gaur massacre victims signed a five-point agreement on Tuesday.
The deal was struck during a meeting between the representatives of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Gaur Massacre Victims’ Struggle Committee.
As per the agreement, complaints, relating to the 2007 incident, filed with the police will be investigated and the guilty will be brought to book as per law.
Similarly, the agreement also states that the list of all the victims of the massacre declared martyrs by the then government will be published in the Nepal Gazette while the process to amend the list to include those left out will also be carried out.
As per the deal, the Ministry of Health and Population will be requested to make necessary medical arrangements for those injured in the clash while a request for monetary assistance will also be proposed before the Cabinet, the Home Ministry said.
On March 21, 2007, as many as 27 individuals associated with the CPN (Maoist) were brutally killed, with another 115 injured in the incident.
With no initiative from successive governments to examine the massacre, the relatives of the victims had begun a series of protests in Rautahat from July 29.
After six days of agitation, the Prime Minister’s Office, on August 4, called the protesters for a meeting. In the meeting on August 5, Dahal had assured the protesters that he would constitute a home secretary-led panel to hold dialogue and deliver justice.
