Umesh Chauhan has been appointed the new Editor-in-Chief of Kantipur daily, the Post’s sister paper.
Kantipur Media Group Chairman and Managing Director Kailash Sirohiya announced Chauhan as the chief editor of the daily newspaper amid a function at the KMG offices in Central Business Park, Thapathali, Kathmandu on Sunday.
Chairman Sirohiya, during the function, said that outgoing editor-in-chief Sudheer Sharma had played a vital role in taking Kantipur to heights of professional journalism and said he would like to see new chief editor Chauhan take it to even greater heights.
Chairman Sirohiya urged Sharma to continue to offer his advice and suggestions to the newspaper even though his institutional affiliation has come to an end.
Sharma said that in his almost two decades with the daily he never faced any undue pressure from the publishers. He credited his successful tenure at Kantipur daily to the professionally competent KMG leadership and management as well as Kantipur daily newsroom.
The newly-appointed editor-in-chief Chauhan committed to leading the newsroom and taking it to greater heights armed with the journalistic skills he learned from Sharma during their time together. Chauhan said he continues to believe in the power of print journalism and when it is combined with new technology, Kantipur daily can cross new frontiers.
Chauhan, who has been active in journalism for the past two decades, has been working as the Editor of Kantipur daily for two years. Before that, he was the Editor of Naya Patrika daily.
Chauhan holds a Master’s degree in Mass Communication and Journalism from Purbanchal University and has experience in radio and television.
