Former Nepali Congress district president and member of the parliament Ganesh Prasad Bimali passed away in India on Monday.
Bimali died while returning to Nepal after treatment in India was deemed unlikely.
The Nepali Congress leader had been admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre, New Delhi, a month ago after he suffered from lung-related problems.
The 74-year-old was diagnosed with a rare lung cancer, whose cure the hospital claimed was not possible, following which he was sent home on Monday, Bimali’s son Kuldeep Bimali said.
Bimali’s body will be brought to his Birtamod-based home in Jhapa district at around 11pm on Tuesday. Funeral rites will be held on Wednesday in the Kankai river in Jhapa, Kuldeep added.
Bimali, a central committee member of the Nepali Congress, had been active in politics since 1977 AD.
