Gorkha

A team of CPN-UML leaders and cadres electioneering for the party’s candidate in Gorkha-2 has been attacked by a group on Sunday night.

According to police, Hari Kafle, UML’s Gandaki province secretariat member, got injured in the attack by the gang at a hotel in Palungtar Municipality-6, Chyangli at around 11:30pm.

Kafle has got seven stitches to his head and is undergoing treatment at a health facility in Dumre, Tanahun.

Police said they have arrested two persons—Ajit Panta and Ram Sapkota—for their alleged involvement in the attack. Superintendent of Police Kedar Khanal at the District Police Office, Gorkha said they are searching for two others involved in the attack.

Meanwhile, UML’s candidate from the constituency Abdus Miya claimed the attack was pre-planned.

“The gang attacked when the leaders were having dinner,” said Miya. “They entered the hotel searching for Deepak Tamang and started attacking abruptly.” He said the secretariat member Kafle got injured in the scuffle.

“We had received threat calls. Thus, we have taken the attack as a pre-planned incident,” said Miya.
