Rastra Kavi Madhav Prasad Ghimire has passed away. He was 101.
According to Ghimire’s son Rajib, he passed away at 5:55 pm on Tuesday. He reportedly hadn’t been keeping well of late.
Born on September 23, 1919, in Lamjung, Ghimire is well-known for his literary works such as Manjari, Gauri, Malati Mangale, Himal Pari Himal Wari, Rajeshwori, Indrakumari, Rastra Nirmata, Kinnar-Kinnari, Charu Charcha, Aafno Bansuri Aafnai Geet, among others.
Ghimire received the Sajha Award for Himal Pari Himal Wari in 1997/98 and for Charu Charcha in 2001/02. The Padmashree Sadhana Samman Puraskar was also bestowed on him in 2010/11.
Ghimire penned songs such as ‘Gauncha geet Nepali’, ‘Phool ko thunga bagera gayo’, and ‘Aajai rati ke dekhe sapana.’
