He escaped from prison at around 2 am today leaving the jail staff and security personnel in panic. According to the jail authorities, the inmate could run away because he was placed in DRC Bloc instead of a prison cell. Initially, the prison staffers assumed that he might have gone to toilet.
Later, they came to know that the British inmate Mukadur Hussain, who was doing time on the charge of visa overstay, had escaped the prison.
Following the incident, prison officials were left baffled as to how Hussain fled from the jail by breaking the security line of 87 Armed Police Force (APF) and 27 Nepal Police personnel and who helped him.
A team from Metropolitan Police Range, Lalitpur, was deployed for his search soon after they received the information.
According to a source, Hussain was nabbed from near Pulchok, Lailtpur, at around 7:30 am today.
The escape of an inmate from such a strongly guarded prison has perplexed everyone, and raised question that who could have helped him to make the jailbreak.
The prison management has formed a probe committee under Assistant Chief District Officer (CDO) Damaru Niraula of Lalitpur to look into the incident.
Hussain, who was placed at Sundhara-based Central Jail from May 2017, was transferred to Nakhu Jail on June 5, a prison source said.
