Tamang defeats ex-FinMin Mahat on third attempt
Left alliance candidate and CPN Maoist Centre leader Hit Bahadur Tamang has defeated former Finance Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) leader Ram Sharan Mahat in Nuwakot Constituency-1.

Left alliance candidate and CPN Maoist Centre leader Hit Bahadur Tamang has defeated former Finance Minister and Nepali Congress (NC) leader Ram Sharan Mahat in Nuwakot Constituency-1.
Former Youth and Sports Minister Tamang defeated Mahat with a wide margin of 8,553 votes. Tamang received 36,473 votes while Mahat garnered 27,920 votes.
This was the third fight between the two leaders as Tamang was defeated by Mahat during Constituent Assembly polls in 2008 and 2013.
Born to a simple peasant family, Tamang joined politics from CPN Unity Centre and later joined Maoist movement and is currently a member of the party's central secretariat.
