The apex court slapped two years jail sentence and Rs 50,000 fine to former IG Om Bikram Rana while it ordered Rs 40,000 fine and one year prison term to former IGPs Hem Bahadur Gurung and Ramesh Chandra Thakuri.

A division bench of Chief Justice Sushila Karki and Justice Bishwomber Prasad Shrestha passed the final judgment on the case pertaining to embezzlement of state funds during the procurement of Armed Personnel Carriers and other equipment meant for Nepali peacekeepers in Sudan.
The bench found them guilty of purchasing obsolete and sub-standard armoured vehicles for Nepali UN peacekeepers.
The court also slapped one year prison and Rs 40,000 fine on then Additional Inspector General (AIGs) Shyam Singh Thapa and Deepak Singh Thangden.
Then DIG Deep Kumar Shrestha and then SSP Ravi Pratap Rana have also been handed six-month jail sentence and Rs 30,000. The court has given clean-chit to other accused.
Meanwhile, an impeachment motion has been registered at the Parliament Secretariat against Chief Justice Sushila Karki by 249 lawmakers from the ruling parties. Karki has automatically been suspended from the CJ post with the registration of the motion, according to the constitutional provision.
