LBRC submits report recommending 719 local units

LBRC Chairman Balananda Poudel submitted the report to Minister for Federal Affairs and Local Development Hitraj Pandey amid a special programme organised at Prime Minister Office and the Council of Ministers in the presence of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
The report has recommended four metropolitan cities across the country, while 12 sub-metropolitan cities, 241 municipalities and 462 village units (gaupalika) while the number of wards will be 6,553.
The geographical information system (GIS)-based 718-paged report is prepared in consultation with more than 50,000 stakeholders cross the country, the LBRC said.
The report currently consists of high-powered local body provisions in its 16 volumes. Inclusion of provisions related to the special, protected and autonomous areas will be ensured in the second phase, the Commission said.
Present at the programme were Deputy Prime Ministers Bimalendra Nidhi and Krishna Bahadur Mahara, members of the Council of Ministers, LBRC officials and the high-ranking officials of the government.
