Residents in a dozen of VDCs in Jajarkot have been facing hardships after the Khalanga-Panchkatiya road section along the Jajarkot-Jumla road was obstructed due to the landslides.
People of Dhime, Paink, Archani, Pajaru, Talegaun, Nayakbada, Ramidanda and Rokayagaun have to walk all day to reach Khalanga, the district headquarters of Jajarkot. Local Dilli Bahadur Singh said they have been carrying patients in the District Hospital in stretchers and traditional bamboo baskets after landslides triggered by heavy monsoon rains blocked the road. The Jajarkot-Jumla road had been opened a decade ago. Villagers of remote areas said they are reeling under the shortage of daily essentials, including food supplies, since the vehicular movement along the road was disrupted four months ago.
The road linking Khalanga with Panchkatiya, Paink, Byauli Dhunga and Barekot has been damaged at several locations, according to local trader Bhim Bahadur Budha. The rural roads in Chhe Da Thalaha, Kudu Jagatipur, Phera Karkigaun and Bora Chipprena have also been obstructed due to the landslides since three months.
Kaldar Singh of Tale Gaun said the villagers have been commuting taking risks after the Division Road Office in Chaurjahari did not pay attention to up grade the roads on time.
