Vehicular movement resumes at Biratnagar entry point
The cross-border activities at Biratnagar entry point that were stalled due to Madhesi Morcha’s obstruction since Saturday have resumed from Monday evening. A team headed by Morang Trade Association senior Vice-Chairman Rajendra Raut held discussions with the officials of Jogbani Customs Office today following which the Indian side allowed Nepal-bound vehicles.
According to Raut, the Indian side agreed to release the petroleum products in morning shift and industrial raw materials and other commodities in evening shift without any obstruction.
On Saturday, the cadres of Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha had staged a sit in at no-man’s land along Biratnagar-Jogbani border. A clash had ensued after Nepali security personnel tried to remove them from the area. The tension escalated furthermore when the agitating Madhesi people started pelting stones at Nepali police from Indian territory.
On Sunday, the Indian border security force SSB had taken Nepal Police ASI under their control and also confiscated his weapon. SSB had reportedly beaten the ASI. Since then the border saw no vehicular movement.
