Local administration imposed an indefinite curfew order in Gauda of Rautahat district from 5:30 pm on Monday after the area became tense due to clashes between protesters and police.
Police shot into the air and lobbed teargas shells to contain the situation following sporadic clashes.
The protestors—cadres of Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha—have been protesting in Garuda claiming they do not feel ownership in the new constitution as their demands related to federalism and demarcation have not been addressed the way they wanted it.
The situation is tense in the area as the protestors are hurling stones at the police while the police are taking turns to chase them away. The SLMM cadres are burning copies of new constitution in several places.
Six injured in police firing
Meanwhile, six people have sustained bullet injuries after police opened fire during a clash with the protestors at Garuda of Rautahat district on Monday.
Those injured are said to be out of danger. They sustained rubber bullet fired by police.
Until our last update on this report, few cases of clashes were reported from Garuda. Local administration clamped curfew from 5:30 pm today until further notice.
