Addressing the function, Minister for Health and Population Khaga Raj Adhikari said that the government is committed to implement the policy, which is a landmark document of the country. Since population is a cross-cutting issue, it is the responsibility of every ministry, department and other government agencies to contribute towards the document’s implementation, he said.
At the programme, Kedar Bogoti, Chief of the Population Division under MoHP, did a presentation on the policy that, among others, includes objectives, goals, challenges and strategies of the government document. He also requested other ministries and stakeholders to help implement the policy.
United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) provided support to MoHP in formulating the policy. “We congratulate the Government of Nepal for unveiling the National Population Policy, which is critical to development,” said UNFPA Representative Giulia Vallese. The policy will be a key milestone in responding to the population issues faced by Nepal, she said adding, “we reaffirm our commitment to provide support to the Government of Nepal for its effective implementation.”
