The clash reportedly ensued between the two groups over the issue of building a house inside the Raktamala Community Forest area. Police claimed a group led by local Ratna Magar, 32, came to the area wielding hammers and attacked Laxmi. According to former VDC Chairperson Ram Katuwal, Laxmi had tried to save Rekh Bahadur Gurung and Ramesh Thapa, who are her brothers-in-law.
Rekh Bahadur and Ramesh, who were also injured in the clash, were taken to Biratnagar but have been referred to Dharan and Siliguri, India. According to locals, Rekh Bahadur's condition is critical as he is bleeding profusely from both ears.
Inspector Dhundiraj Neupane said the two groups were involved in disputes ever since Rekh Bahadur filed a complaint against Magar over the construction of the house within forest area. Police said they arrested the trio on murder charge and remanded them into custody for further investigation.
