Electricity has been restored in several areas of Mugu district two months after heavy rainfall in the first week of October caused damage to the Gamgad Hydro Electricity Project.
The power outage had disrupted daily life for local residents affecting household chores and the studies of students. So much so that they have to depend on solar power panels or diesel plants to charge their cell phone sets.
However, on Sunday the repair works at the project were completed following which electricity has been restored in areas including Gamgadi, Karkibada, Srinagar, Dhum, Bhanbada among other settlements.
The outage had also disrupted health service at Mugu District Hospital, the district’s only hospital. The facility does not have an alternative to the prolonged electricity disruption. Some essential health services, including ultrasound, X-ray and laboratory tests, have come to a grinding halt.
The hospital that had been using a diesel-powered generator to fulfill its electricity demand for the past two months is now using electricity from the project to power the hospital machines.
Various government offices and financial institutions including banks, cooperatives and IME remit service, have also begun delivering regular services with the restoration of electricity.
