Nepal defeated Pakistan 1-0 in an international friendly football match at the Dasharath Stadium on Wednesday.
Anjan Bista scored the decisive goal in the 83rd minute from close range, capitalising on a through pass by Sunil Bal in Nepal’s 50th appearance at their home ground.
Bista’s 11th international goal makes him the second highest goal scorer in Nepali football history, two away from Nirajan Rayamajhi’s record 13 goals.
Rohit Chand captained Nepal for the first time in the absence of goalkeeper Kiran Kumar Limbu, with Deep Karki taking over the duty of guarding the Nepali post against Pakistan.
In a goalless first half, both teams could not weave a significant attack despite a lively game. The dull game continued in the second half until seven minutes before the time when Bista scored.
Abhas Lamichhane made his debut as a substitute player in the second half.
It was also the first game for caretaker coach Pravesh Katuwal.
Also, this is the first international match played by Pakistan in more than three years due to Covid-19 and FIFA suspension.
