Nepal-Sri Lanka match called off after heavy downpour
The rain-hit game was abandoned with both sides sharing a point each.Post Report
The group stage match between Nepal and Sri Lanka of the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup has been abandoned without a ball bowled due to downpour in Florida, USA on Wednesday.
Earlier, rain forced the game, scheduled for 5:15am NPT, to be delayed. The game was called off after the rain continued with both sides sharing a point each.
Nepal are at fourth position in the group standings, only followed by Sri Lanka who have lost two out of the three matches played.
The Rhinos will need to win their remaining two matches to make it to the playoffs but their loss to familiar rivals Netherlands has been a thorn in their Super Eight hopes.
Nepal made a disastrous start to their World Cup campaign on their return to cricket’s biggest stage after a decade as they lost their opening match to the Dutch team by six wickets in Dallas, Texas on June 4.
Only the top two teams from each group progress to the next stage.
