Writer JB Darlami released his latest novel, ‘Marikholako Dhungo’ on Saturday.
The author presented the first copy of his book to Eva Kafle, an undergraduate student in Kathmandu University School of Arts, during the book launch organised in Kathmandu on Saturday. This gesture symbolised the transition to a new era, represented by the generation born and raised during the armed conflict.
Kafle, who shared her reflections on growing up during the Maoist insurgency in Nepal, shared that ‘Marikholako Dhungo’ will help young readers understand Nepal’s history and identity. She shared that the subject isn’t taught in detail in schools. However, she found answers to many of her questions and confusion about Nepal’s past and present within the pages of Darlami’s novel.
Darlami, who hails from Arghakhanchi, recalled his humble beginnings and the challenges he faced in pursuing education and writing at the event. Despite the odds, his dedication to storytelling led him to write ‘Marikholako Dhungo’, which, he says, is a reflection of his personal experiences and observations.
Known for his versatility in literary and non-literary genres, Darlami’s latest work offers a firsthand perspective on the tumultuous times of Nepal's recent history.
