Durga Prasai faces slander charge

Rajyalaxmi Shrestha, Jamuna Subedi and Ambika Karki on Thursday filed a formal complaint against Prasai at the National Human Rights Commission.
They demanded stern legal action against Prasai under the Libel and Slander Act, 2016 and Some Public (Crime and Punishment) Act, 2027 for making such callous claim, much to the distress of female Nepali students studying medicine in Bangladesh and their parents.
Prasai had openly disparaged the Nepali female medical students in Bangladesh at a press conference to prove his point, that anti-corruption crusader Dr Govinda KC is wrong demand better medical education and health access for all Nepalis.
“Prasai spoke against women’s honour without any certain proof. Strict legal action should be taken against him. Being a stakeholder of medical sector and speaking against its ethics is not acceptable,” Karki said.
Ex-minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sher Bahadur Tamang had to resign from his post on Tuesday for repeating Parsai’s controversial remarks at a school function.
