The 13th edition of the Nepal European Union Film Festival (NEUFF) was announced during a press meeting held by the Delegation of the European Union to Nepal on Friday. The festival, titled ‘Fifty Years of EU-Nepal Relations: Celebrating Cultural Diversity’, will commence on March 20 and run till April 20.
Dr Joelle Hivonnet, deputy head of the delegation of the European Union to Nepal, expressed, “I am happy to share the diverse culture, lifestyle, and cinematic creativity of Europe with the Nepali audience in Kathmandu, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim as we mark the 50 years of EU-Nepal diplomatic relations.”
The opening of the festival will take place at the CDC Cinemas, CTC Mall in Sundhara, Kathmandu, on March 20 and continue until March 23 in the same venue.
Upasana Singh Thakuri has been appointed the NEUFF brand ambassador for this year. The opening day, featuring the screening of the award-winning film ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’ directed by Martin McDonagh, alongside the Nepali film ‘Dhye Dreams’ directed by Shanta Nepali, will be an invite-only event. However, subsequent days of the festival will be open to the public.
A total of nine European films and eleven Nepali short films will be screened during the festival, featuring diverse narratives and styles from both regions. Following its stint in Kathmandu, the festival will travel to other provinces extending its reach to broader audiences across Nepal.
The festival will go to Sudurpaschim province for screenings at Far Western University on April 10 and 11. It will be screened in Lumbini province on April 15, followed by Karnali Province on April 19 and 20.
