The government has decided to talk to the Madhes-based parties once again before registering a constitution amendment bill in Parliament.

Though the government was expected to register the bill on Sunday, it backtracked due to pressure from the ruling and opposition parties and the lack of consensus within the regional parties on the matter.

A Cabinet meeting on Sunday discussed the bill but decided to register it only after further negotiation with the Madhes-based parties, said a minister. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal would discuss the contents of amendment with the Tarai parties before registering the bill possibly on Monday. The PM reportedly told ministers that he would continue his last ditch bid for consensus at least with the agitating parties and the ruling alliance. The minister said a Cabinet meeting on Monday would take a decision on registering the bill. The PM sought more time for further consultation, said Environment Minister Jaydev Joshi.
